The most beautiful towns in Spain to visit at Christmas

There are many beautiful towns that are scattered throughout the Spanish geography and it is worthwhile to make a getaway (such as the fishing villages of Asturias) or a day trip if they are close to your city. But there are some who they have a special charm at Christmas. Today we want to talk about three of them.

Buitrago de Lozoya is a Historic-Artistic Complex and Asset of Cultural Interest / Living Nativity Scene of Buitrado del Lozoya

The first is Buitrago de Lozoya (Madrid). Every year, its historic center turns into a huge living nativity scene that has been declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. Unfortunately, this year’s edition has had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

Even so, it is one of the most beautiful towns in the province and its location in the Sierra de Guadarrama makes it a beautiful destination for a winter getaway. With a bit of luck, you will be able to see covered with snow a place that has been named a Historic-Artistic Site and Asset of Cultural Interest.

Among the Christmas activities of Sepúlveda, a theatrical representation stands out / Instagram: @sepulvedaturismo

Not far away is another good destination: Sepulveda (Segovia). There you will find a wide range of Christmas-themed leisure activities, from workshops and Christmas carols to children’s activities. One of the most classic events is the representation carried out by the Theater Group and which raises funds that are destined for purposes such as the Residence for the Elderly or the Three Kings Parade.

It is also famous the San Silvestre Sepulvedana, which is celebrated every December 31st. There are races for all ages and the main requirement to participate is to get a good costume. Do you dare to end the year running?

Alcalá del Júcar has been the scene of some Christmas announcements

We finish our little tour in a municipality called Alcalá del Júcar (Albacete). His name may not be familiar to you, but surely you have seen images. And it is that this town has been the scene of some Christmas announcements. And we are not surprised, because its streets have so much magic that they seem taken from a Christmas.

In 1982, it was declared a Historic-Artistic Site and Christmas is the best time to discover why. It has several monuments that are worth visiting, such as a 12th century castle or the Church of San Andrés.
