The most beautiful and unknown Christmas markets in Europe

Don’t let the cold deter you from planning a European getaway in December. It is the perfect time to visit some cities of the old continent. The Christmas atmosphere fills its streets with magic and, above all, its markets. We want to talk about the latter today. We have done a small selection of our favorites to help you choose the destination of your next trip.

At the Trier flea market you can enjoy freshly cooked food

Nowhere are flea markets as typical as in Germany and, although some have been canceled due to the pandemic, you can visit one of the most beautiful: the one in Trier. It is celebrated between November 19 and November 22, 2021. There you will find all kinds of Christmas items and craft products. You can also enjoy freshly cooked food. And to accompany it, there is nothing better than the traditional feuerzangenbowle, a hot drink made with wine.

Poznan hosts two Christmas markets

The Polish city of Poznan does not have one, but with two markets. The first was inaugurated on November 20 in Wolnosci Square and you can visit it until December 27. The second is installed on December 4 in the Kasprowicza Park. But there is still more. Between December 11 and 12, it also takes place the International Ice Sculpture Festival, in which you can discover how a block of ice becomes a work of art.

The most beautiful market in Portugal is in Madeira / Direcção Regional do Turismo da Madeira

We ended up in Madeira (Portugal). Its market is part of the Christmas party program, which runs from December 1 to January 7 and also has activities and workshops. The market is located on the avenue Arriaga boulevard, in the heart of the capital, Funchal. A place where neighbors and visitors meet to do Christmas shopping. Among the products on display, you will find from exotic flowers to traditional souvenirs. You can also taste typical dishes and drinks of this time.
