Health problems you can heal with plants

Since ancient times, plants have been used as an ornament or as an offering, but also, and fundamentally, they have been considered great allies to heal the body, mind and spirit.

Although today this idea may seem "unscientific", the truth is that many of the drugs we buy in the pharmacy chemically mimic the properties of plants, or contain their active ingredients.

We constantly pass by plants that could be in our first aid kit, but we don't recognize them. We have become accustomed to not seeing in them this potentiality.

Here we propose you to retake a little of this ancestral power that the medicinal plants treasure by the recommendations of Alys Fowler, British horticulturist and journalist.

For slight and superficial cuts

Crush plantain leaves until you create a kind of paste, which will help you heal minor wounds, soothe irritations and relieve itching if an insect, such as a mosquito, has bitten you.

This plant has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. It grows in Europe, North America, Latin America and West Asia, and is usually found in dry places or at the edges of roads.

Bruising

In cases of bruises and muscle aches you can make a paste with leaves of Symphytum officinale, also known as comfrey. Although it is a plant native to Europe, it is easy to get it in other places.

Stomach ache

If you have a stomach upset, nausea or indigestion, take an infusion of lemon balm or mint. This can also help you if you have migraine.

Another of the natural remedies to help digestion and relieve pain caused by flatulence, are the seeds of dill, cumin or fennel. You must crush them and make an infusion to take advantage of all its properties.

It is always advised that, before trying any of these homemade treatments, consult your doctor. He can tell you exactly why your discomfort is due and what is most appropriate.
