Golden rules to handle extreme stress situations
We have all experienced stressful situations, and we know that these are times when you do not have a good time. But the biggest problem is not the unpleasant sensations we go through.
The most complicated of situations of extreme stress is that they paralyze us. They leave us in check and without knowing how to act. Many times, that causes us to end up making impulsive decisions that we later regret.
To avoid that, it is best to be well prepared beforehand. Therefore, it is a good idea to consider these golden rules to handle those kinds of situations.
1. Breathe and count to 10
Yes, it's a pretty trite advice, but it works. Concentrating for a few seconds on your breathing will help you to think more clearly and feel more relaxed. Do not say or do anything before taking a deep breath a couple of times!

2. Find out what your internal dialogue is and change it
Sometimes what most stresses us in a situation is that we have the feeling of not being able to do anything, or that the thought that this situation can harm us is around us. In a way, however, it's all in your head.
Try to change the thought that you can not handle it by "I will do the best I can, regardless of the result". If you do it as a frequent exercise, you will discover that you can do much more than you thought.
Try to change your negative beliefs about yourself and the situation for more realistic ones.
3. Take a small step
Sometimes there are situations that overwhelm us because they require too many actions in a short period of time. We feel completely overwhelmed and, then, we do nothing.
The best thing in that instance is to do something. Make the first move. It does not matter if you do not finish everything, a small action is better than none. If your house is on fire, take the first step, the most obvious, and call the fire department.
4. Look at the full picture
If you lock yourself into your own feelings and how you feel, you will be seeing a very small aspect of the picture. In a situation of extreme stress, try to take a deep breath and look around. What's going on? Where are you? Who are you with? What are they doing?
Sometimes stress is more in our head than in reality. Maybe nobody is as aware of you as you think. Maybe the situation is not so terrible, judging by how relaxed others are. Maybe life is not really at stake.
5. Ask for help
Many times we let stress overwhelm us simply because we do not know how to ask for help on time. And here we do not talk about professional help, although if you have recurring problems with stress management, you should consider it as an option.
Talk with your partner Call a friend for advice. Be honest and tell your boss that you do not know how to solve it. Work in team.
Loneliness and that feeling that everything depends on us is one of the biggest sources of stress. When, in reality, there is always someone willing to help.
And you, what do you do to deal with stress? Leave us your comments.
