Ayurveda test: find out if your dominant dosha is vata, pitta or khapa

By Dra. Florencia D'Antonio

The doshas are the vital forces found in all things. There are three: Vata, Pita and Kapha. Depending on whether they are in balance or not, the state of health or disease will occur.

The knowledge of your body constitution (or prakriti), serves to know what habits it would be advisable to start adopting, to be healthier. You will be able to meet him in this questionnaire.

You must answer based on what has always been a constant in your life. This test is only indicative, but it can help you know which is your master dosha. The answers indicate if it is Vatta (V), Pitta (P) or Kapha (K). The result tells you what proportion of the three your praktiri has. The most common is a bidoshica constitution, that is, with predominance in two types of doshas.

Once you know the result, you can discover the most favorable eating habits and routines for each dosha. We recommend that you properly inform yourself about doshas and the science of Ayurveda before making an assessment.

You can also use this same test to find out if you have any imbalance, and to find out which doshas it is in. For this, you must answer thinking about what is happening to you today or what is currently happening to you. In case of illness or annoying symptoms, we advise consultation with a specialist.

If at the end of the test you want to learn more about it, you can take the course "Ayurveda as a tool for self-healing". You will find it in the Bioguide Courses section, in the food category. There is an exclusive benefit for you!

People with a predominant Vata Dosha are usually physically small, or very tall and thin, with irregular physical proportions, protruding and crisp joints, and little muscle mass. For example: small chest with long legs, delicate face with a pointed and large nose. They have dark hair, eyes and complexion, protruding cheekbones, sunken eyes. They have little subcutaneous fat that reveals the tendons and veins.

They usually have dry skin, cold hands and feet. They prefer warm climates. At the digestive level, they tend to have constipation, abundant gas and abdominal bloating. Many times they forget to eat, drink liquids and respond to their natural urgencies, such as urination.

At the mental level, they are usually very hyperactive, with high energy, verbose. They have trouble keeping stable routines, having regular schedules and activities. They are very enthusiastic about the novelty, but due to their irregularity, they find it difficult to finish what they start.

His sleep is light, 6 hours. They usually wake up at 2-3 am, and have a tendency to suffer insomnia. They are very sociable, positive, energetic. In imbalance, they worry easily, have excessive fear and anxiety.

By the Ayurvedic rule that the like increases the like, as Vata is air and ether needs everything that connects and anchors it to the earth. You should avoid cold, wind, and be especially careful in the fall.

The most favorable thing for this dosha is to have routines, with regular schedules, respecting the moments of the meals. It is considerably favored by oil massages and the stimulation of touch. Your diet must have a predominance of sweet, salty and acidic flavors. Food must be substantial. Raw salads are not recommended, nor are green leafy vegetables without caloric intake.

  • Majority of B: Pita

It is the biological force that holds together two forces as opposite as fire and water. It is the energy that digests "things". It is responsible for all metabolic transformations in the body and for mental digestion, for the perception of reality and its understanding.

People with a predominance in this dosha, have medium structure, proportionate body, developed muscle mass. Her eyes and hair are light or red, with reddish skin and abundant freckles.

They have excellent digestive power, soft stools, significant hunger. They have a preference for cold climates, and their body temperature is generally hot, with significant sweating. They have great energy capacity and are of moderate sleep.

They seem to waste time when they are not working. They have a tendency to anger, they are hypercritical and hyperexigent, they judge with great ease. They have a hard time relegating tasks since they consider that nobody will do things the way they do.

By the Ayurvedic rule that similarity increases similarity, as Pita is fire and water, he needs all activities that "cool him down". You should avoid spicy, salty, and acidic foods. You should also avoid eating meats, fermented products, and drinking alcohol. Leisure time favors them, and they have to avoid excessive work, without relaxing moments. They must be especially careful in the summer months and on very hot days.

It is the biological force that allows the union of the earth with the water: it is the energy that keeps things together. Dosha Kapha provides substance and support, supports the tissues of the body. It also provides emotional support, and relates to feelings of love, compassion, forgiveness, and patience.

His voice is thick and slow. They are people who carry out activities slowly, have little energy. Its digestive power is slow, with heaviness after meals.

When they are in balance they are loving, friendly and loyal. Their relationships are stable and long-lasting. In imbalance they are easily depressed. They tend to greed, greed, and attachment.

By the Ayurvedic rule that similarity increases similarity, since Kapha is land and water, you should avoid routine and physical inactivity, as well as sleeping for many hours and napping. You should also stay away from oily, fried, high-calorie, heavy, hard-to-digest foods.

It favors them to change their routine from time to time, and foods that taste bitter, astringent and spicy, avoiding sweet, salty and acidic foods. Their most convenient food is raw, leafy green salads. Regular physical activity also favors them.
