Attentive! What care should we take into account against the heat wave?

Several countries in the southern hemisphere are going through the summer, the time of year when atmospheric temperature rises abruptly.

However, with the high temperatures, health care begins to avoid pressure drops and bad times that lead us to a medical call. For example, during a heat wave – like those that are becoming more frequent due to climate change.

To avoid this, we share a series of recommendations in times of alerts due to high temperatures:

SOME RECOMMENDATIONS TO GO THROUGH THE HEAT WAVE

  • Drink plenty of fluids. It is essential to stay hydrated!
  • Avoid alcoholic and sugary drinks.
  • Prioritize the intake of vegetables and fruits.
  • Reduce physical activity in core hours.
  • Do not expose yourself to the sun for long periods of time. Wear glasses, hats, etc.
  • Use sun protection to protect yourself from the effect of ultraviolet rays.
  • Stay in ventilated spaces.
  • Choose loose clothing in light colors, that do not absorb heat, and made of lightweight materials.

How to act before a heat stroke?

If you have symptoms such as:

  • Intense thirst and dry mouth
  • Temperature greater than 39 °
  • Excessive sweating
  • Suffocating heat sensation
  • Dry Skin
  • Exhaustion, dizziness, or fainting

In Argentina, experts say the temperature could exceed 40 ° and break a record in 27 years. An extreme heat wave, in much of Argentina, is looming in areas of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Santiago del Estero.

According to the extended forecast of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the thermometer will increase in the coming days in the central region of the country and some points in the northwest.

Faced with this event, we must not forget the environmental impact that high temperatures can generate since the sources of fires would increase along with other environmental consequences.

Inés Camilloni, director of the Master in Environmental Sciences at the UBA and independent researcher at CONICET in dialogue with a national media, confessed the following:

“In Argentina there is a tendency for heat waves to become more intense, longer and more frequent in a very important part of our territory. The health risks from this type of event are high. We would not be exempt from thermal stress situations for part of our population in the coming years if the planet’s average temperature continues to rise ”, emphasized Camilloni.

And the scientist continued stating: “The way out is to limit this global warming. For that, quick and urgent actions are needed, such as limiting the emissions that produce it and deforestation, which contribute to climate change.”

HOW MANY MORE CALLS FOR ATTENTION WILL WE HAVE TO RECEIVE FROM OUR MOTHER EARTH?

Remember to call for medical assistance immediately and find a quiet and cool space, ask for water and stay calm!

Finally, special care is requested with the elderly, children, pregnant women and chronically ill, also remember to protect pets.

And You … HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR THIS WAVE OF HEAT?
