What is astenozoospermia?

Etymologically, the word astenozoospermia means »lack of strength in sperm» It comes from the Greek. The prefix »a» means absence and the suffix »steno» force.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) asthenozoospermia occurs when there is less than 40% of motile sperm in the ejaculate. It is a cause of infertility. This is because, without movement, the sperm are unable to reach the oocyte and fertilize it. Therefore, pregnancy can not occur.
