A study in the United States raises doubts about the origin of the pandemic

A year has passed since the first alarms were lit for the emergence of the new Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus. But even the scientific community continues to make intriguing discoveries about the origin of the pandemic. In this case, it is a study that was carried out in the US which raises doubts about what triggered this serious disease that afflicts the entire world.

The research was published on November 30 in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. And prepared by experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, acronym that correspond to the English language). It added new suspicions about the real beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

The virus may be present before the global alarms went off

According to the official chronology, the departure date was the Dec 21, 2019, the day the health authorities of the Wuhan, China they issued the alert. In which they reported on a series of cases associated with a mysterious respiratory virus. Noting that the common point of the patients was a municipal market that sold live and dead wild animals.

Now, 11 months later, scientists associated with the US government have retroactively discovered that 39 people they had already developed antibodies against the virus 2 weeks before the alert. The individuals are from 3 different states of the country and there was no contact between them.

The study was based on blood samples that came from donations made between December 13, 2019 and January 17, 2020. The analyzed samples totaled 7,389 and all were routinely collected by donations made by the Red Cross , in 9 US states

How does this change the origin of the pandemic?

It is still unknown when the coronavirus actually appeared and perhaps it is something that has no answer. But what is known is that the first major outbreak emerged in Wuhan in December 2019. And with these new studies it is suggested that the virus had been circulating around the world weeks or months before.

It is also unclear how and when the Sars-CoV-2 virus began to infect people. Not what animal could have jumped to humans. However, there is a consensus among scientists who believe that the first outbreak originated in a Wuhan market that sold wild animals. What remains to be defined is whether the virus appeared there or took advantage of the conditions of the place to spread from one person to another.

On the other hand, some experts debate the idea that a virus with the potential to become a pandemic circulated around the world for months without being detected. They indicate that traveling for weeks might be a more feasible option, especially during winter and the northern hemisphere.

All investigations are still ongoing, some to discover the real origin of the pandemic and others to manage to end the disease of the coronavirus.
